Revelation 16:1-3 – November 13

God, please give us a fresh revelation of Jesus Christ as we study the book of Revelation!

We’ll be studying Revelation through the end of November. Please feel free to read and journal with us as often as you can, with the goal of getting to daily time at the feet of Jesus. For this study, we are using Beth Moore’s “Here and Now…There and Then” lecture series and study guide on Revelation as a resource, so you may see it referenced occasionally.

You can read the NIV version of today’s reading below or your favorite Bible version then spend some time meditating and journaling on the reading, letting God speak to you through it. Revelation 16:1-3 – The Seven Bowls of God’s Wrath

Then I heard a loud voice from the temple saying to the seven angels, “Go, pour out the seven bowls of God’s wrath on the earth.”

² The first angel went and poured out his bowl on the land, and ugly, festering sores broke out on the people who had the mark of the beast and worshiped its image.

³ The second angel poured out his bowl on the sea, and it turned into blood like that of a dead person, and every living thing in the sea died.

Observation

Today we have just a few verses, and I want to give our King Jesus His glory. I’ve mapped out a chart (below) that I have found to be very helpful in reading through Revelation. I’ve always heard this book starts over half way through, and I’m sure you’ve noticed that seems to be pretty apparent. Especially reading in chapter 11, where the millennial reign is about to happen, but in Chapter 12, it starts over with Jesus’ birth. Chapters 1-11 are all chronological, but then it is wise to read the parallel chapters together.

In chapter 8, we know it is the beginning of God’s wrath.  The seven trumpets of judgment sounded and here in or about the same time, these seven vials of judgment will be poured out as well.  It’s pretty obvious that the judgments are not the same, but they will be happening in the same time frame.

Isn’t that just like the big God we serve? Always orchestrating everything, at just the right time, in just the right way, never to make a mistake in anything He does. I’m thankful for the short verses He has given me today. As He knows my computer is sick and has to be taken to the doctor (okay computer store, but you know what I mean). As minute as that sounds, it is HUGE for me. He has orchestrated that just for me today, a shorter post so I can get my computer in.

Application

Let me always remember how big You are, even in the smallest and even silliest of situations. Thanks for taking care of everything so I don’t have to.

Prayer

Father, I haven’t been very relational in my posts these last weeks, as it had been put on my heart to do more of a “study”, since it is such an intimidating book. It felt extremely good to take a break from all that wrath being poured out and the wicked of the world and sit in awe of You today. I pray for the others who are following this study, to sit in nothing but Your presence today and hold tightly to all of the orchestration You are doing in their lives and will continue to do. You’re my mighty Jesus…Amen.
