Revelation 20:11-15 – November 24

God, please give us a fresh revelation of Jesus Christ as we study the book of Revelation!

We’ll be studying Revelation through the end of November and starting an Advent study for the whole family on December 1. Please feel free to read and journal with us as often as you can, with the goal of getting to daily time at the feet of Jesus.

You can read the NIV version of today’s reading below or your favorite Bible version then spend some time meditating and journaling on the reading, letting God speak to you through it. We encourage use of the SOAP method of Bible study. Check out the What’s SOAP tab above for more info. Also, below today’s reading is a SOAP journal entry from our team to help dive into God’s Word. And we encourage you to share your SOAP journal entry, prayer requests, or questions in the Comments section on our website.

The Discover One Thing main website continues to follow the Life Journal Reading Plan which covers the whole Bible in one year. Click HERE to check out today’s Discover One Thing post.

Revelation 20:11-15 – The Judgment of the Dead

11 Then I saw a great white throne and him who was seated on it. The earth and the heavens fled from his presence, and there was no place for them. 12 And I saw the dead, great and small, standing before the throne, and books were opened. Another book was opened, which is the book of life. The dead were judged according to what they had done as recorded in the books. 13 The sea gave up the dead that were in it, and death and Hades gave up the dead that were in them, and each person was judged according to what they had done. 14 Then death and Hades were thrown into the lake of fire. The lake of fire is the second death. 15 Anyone whose name was not found written in the book of life was thrown into the lake of fire.

Scripture

Revelation 20:12

Observation

And fear not them which kill the body, but are not able to kill the soul: but rather fear him which is able to destroy both soul and body in hell.” ‭‭Matthew‬ ‭10:28‬ ‭KJV

Oh my, can you only imagine if you had to be judged by your works? Well, here the small and great (unsaved) will be judged by their works alone. That means no saving grace by faith…YIKES…that would be an automatic go to hell card for me (most likely the case in this read too). Isaiah 64:6 says it best, “but we are all as an unclean thing, and all our righteousnesses are as filthy rags; and we all do fade as a leaf; and our iniquities, like the wind, have taken us away.”‬‬ And that is what God thinks about that!!! What a day that will be — all the unsaved judged and cast into hell. Hell, the lake of fire, now relocated (outside of town) and not in the bottomless pit (the center of the Earth) any longer – far away from those in Jesus.

Application

Because You came down from heaven, put on flesh, died, and rose again, I will be transformed into my immortal self, who will rule and reign with You forever. Not judged by my works but by calling on You to forever be my King Jesus. You’ve saved me from that unfavorable presence with You and gave me the life that You have always longed for.

Prayer

Father, thank You for my saving grace. I alone could never be good enough in Your sight to win Your favor. I am thankful for my relationship with You now. Thank You for dying, so I don’t have too. In Your amazing name…Amen.
