Revelation 11:15-19 – November 7

God, please give us a fresh revelation of Jesus Christ as we study the book of Revelation!

We’ll be studying Revelation through the end of November. Please feel free to read and journal with us as often as you can, with the goal of getting to daily time at the feet of Jesus. For this study, we are using Beth Moore’s “Here and Now…There and Then” lecture series and study guide on Revelation as a resource, so you may see it referenced occasionally.

You can read the NIV version of today’s reading below or your favorite Bible version then spend some time meditating and journaling on the reading, letting God speak to you through it. We encourage use of the SOAP method of Bible study as you grow in your relationship with God. Check out the What’s SOAP tab above for more info. Also, below today’s reading is a SOAP journal entry from our team to help dive into God’s Word. And we encourage you to share your SOAP journal entry, prayer requests, or questions in the Comments section on our website.

The Discover One Thing main website continues to follow the Life Journal Reading Plan which covers the whole Bible in one year. Click HERE to check out today’s Discover One Thing post.

Revelation 11:15-19 – The Seventh Trumpet

15 The seventh angel sounded his trumpet, and there were loud voices in heaven, which said:

“The kingdom of the world has become
the kingdom of our Lord and of his Messiah,
and he will reign for ever and ever.”

16 And the twenty-four elders, who were seated on their thrones before God, fell on their faces and worshiped God, 17 saying:

“We give thanks to you, Lord God Almighty,
the One who is and who was,
because you have taken your great power
    and have begun to reign.
18 The nations were angry,
    and your wrath has come.
The time has come for judging the dead,
and for rewarding your servants the prophets
and your people who revere your name,
    both great and small—
and for destroying those who destroy the earth.”

19 Then God’s temple in heaven was opened, and within his temple was seen the ark of his covenant. And there came flashes of lightning, rumblings, peals of thunder, an earthquake and a severe hailstorm.

Scripture

Revelation 11:17-18

Observation

Here in Revelation, it is as if the whole earth is God’s temple, the “outer court” of His sanctuary in heaven (compare 11:2) given over to Gentiles-or nations- for a limited time, but now holy once again and ready to be reclaimed.  The elders’ song announces the event, involving reward for the righteous and punishment for the wicked (compare Mt 25:46, Jn 5:28, Acts 24:15). The righteous are here divided into 3 groups: Christian prophets (compare 10:7), ordinary believers or “saints” whose prayers triggered the series of 7 trumpets (5:8;8:3-4), and unbelievers who learned to fear and worship God at the end of the trumpet series (11:11-13).

Application

I love in these verses when the 7th trumpet is sounded- it’s a time for worshipping God and praise and thankfulness in heaven! November is here, and I’m reminded how very thankful I am to God for His son, for His Bible, and for His forgiveness.

Prayer

Dear God, thank You for Your revelation of hope today that it is a celebration of Jesus coming back.
