May 27-28 – God is my Help

Sitting at the feet of Jesus is building a divine relationship. As with any relationship, it becomes easier to trust someone when we get to know them better.  In this 3-week study, we are seeking to get to know God better through the Psalms, to grow this divine relationship as we put our faith and hope in Him and love Him with all our heart. Join our study by reading today’s scripture below and journaling about it focused on today’s truth using SOAP (click on the “What’s SOAP?” link above to learn more). Psalm 121

A song of ascents.
I lift up my eyes to the mountains—
    where does my help come from?
My help comes from the Lord,
    the Maker of heaven and earth.
He will not let your foot slip—
    he who watches over you will not slumber;
indeed, he who watches over Israel
    will neither slumber nor sleep.
The Lord watches over you—
    the Lord is your shade at your right hand;
the sun will not harm you by day,
    nor the moon by night.
The Lord will keep you from all harm—
    he will watch over your life;
the Lord will watch over your coming and going
    both now and forevermore.

Scripture

Psalm 121:3-4

Observation

Sometimes referred to as the Traveler’s Song, this Psalm sings of the neverending help God provides to His children. It speaks of the promise that God will keep us from harm, sheltering us from the sun at day and moon at night. In biblical times, the journey the Jews took to the festivals and feasts in Jerusalem was called “the way of blood” – it was a dangerous and scorching journey.

Application

There are times in our lives when we may trek down a hard path – a path on which we feel like we are completely alone. Our God, however, does see us and desires to pull us from the darkness and loneliness at ANY time – because God is always awake, always aware and always watching over His children. I’ve not personally experienced something as devastating as cancer or an accident, but if and when I ever did, I would like myself to remember that there is NEVER a time when God isn’t leaning in on me, wanting to hear the desires of my heart day or night.

Prayer

Father, I’ve been praying hard for some dear friends struggling in life. I pray that they would so clearly hear this message and find comfort. You are always pressing in even when we’re not aware of it. Thank You for always being on the ready for anything I need. Amen.
