May 1 – You Are Protected

We are currently studying our identity through God’s eyes, looking at scriptural truths describing how God sees us as His children. Let these truths penetrate your being, as if God is speaking these words looking right at you. Hang these truths on your mirror so that you will see yourself through His eyes more than through the world’s eyes. Join our study by reading today’s scripture below and journaling about it focused on today’s truth using SOAP (click on the “What’s SOAP?” link above to learn more). Comments are always welcome on our website for questions, discussion, and accountability.

Psalm 121

A song of ascents.

I lift up my eyes to the mountains—
    where does my help come from?
My help comes from the Lord,
    the Maker of heaven and earth.
He will not let your foot slip—
    he who watches over you will not slumber;
indeed, he who watches over Israel
    will neither slumber nor sleep.
The Lord watches over you—
    the Lord is your shade at your right hand;
the sun will not harm you by day,
    nor the moon by night.
The Lord will keep you from all harm—
    he will watch over your life;
the Lord will watch over your coming and going
    both now and forevermore.

Scripture

Psalm 121:1-2

Observation

This psalm sings a song of protection and comfort, praising God for His care, compassion, watchfulness, and help. God doesn’t just watch our lives like a TV show; He wants to provide help if we let Him and keep watch like a guard protecting someone He loves. Watching over our coming and going, He isn’t just beside us in the good times or just the bad times, but He is at constant watch, as we walk toward Him and as we walk away.

Application

Only when I lift my eyes up from what’s happening around me can I accept Your help and let You help and comfort me. This psalm does not mean that nothing bad will ever happen to me but, rather, that You are guarding my soul and always ready to help me through when I recognize You are there — “lift my eyes up”.

Prayer

Thank You for loving me so much, protecting me and helping me. May my eyes remain lifted up to You, recognizing where my protection and help comes from.
