Summer in Psalms Interactive Bible Study – July 17

Thank you for joining us for a summer in Psalms! This Bible study is intended to be interactive, as a stepping stone from reading God’s Word to journaling with Him. The Discover One Thing ministry uses the SOAP method of Bible Study (Scripture, Observation, Application, Prayer) during our daily time at the feet of Jesus. To learn more, check out the “What’s SOAP?” tab above. Please read the Psalm below, let God speak to you through it, then post a response in the Comments section on our website’s home page (i.e., verse that stood out to you, observation, application, prayer, question, prayer request, response to another’s comment). Please check back! Together we can encourage one another and grow closer to God!

Psalm 47

For the director of music. Of the Sons of Korah. A psalm.

Clap your hands, all you nations;
    shout to God with cries of joy.

For the Lord Most High is awesome,
    the great King over all the earth.
He subdued nations under us,
    peoples under our feet.
He chose our inheritance for us,
    the pride of Jacob, whom he loved.

God has ascended amid shouts of joy,
    the Lord amid the sounding of trumpets.
Sing praises to God, sing praises;
    sing praises to our King, sing praises.
For God is the King of all the earth;
    sing to him a psalm of praise.

God reigns over the nations;
    God is seated on his holy throne.
The nobles of the nations assemble
    as the people of the God of Abraham,
for the kings of the earth belong to God;
    he is greatly exalted.

  1. Our amazing God deserves to be praised every second of every day! Just think about all He has done. Wow. I am committing today to praise Him as much and as often as my imperfect mind reminds me.

    Clap your hands all you nations; shout to God with cries of joy (vs. 1). I was raised in a church where reverence to God meant showing no outward emotion when in the walls of that sacred place. I still sometimes am held back in worship by this. So this verse is good for me to read. The Bible says even King David danced naked in the street in worshipping God, waving his hands in the air like he just don’t care. God created us in His image, so it makes sense that I should offer my natural showing of utmost joy back to Him in worship instead of reservedly holding it back. I will clap my hands! Not because I think the worship band gave a good concert but because the God of our universe deserves the best standing ovation I can offer–He is greater than anything in this world.

  2. Verses 5 and 6 : God has ascended amid shouts of joy, the Lord amid the sounding of trumpets. Sing praises to God, sing praises; sing praises to our King, sing praises.

    God came to beat the enemy and conquer death,, God saved then and He continues to save now…Praises to God, Praises to our King.

  3. Wow, that was a good ‘un! I hadn’t heard it before.

    My favorite on K-Love right now is All of Creation by Chris Tomlin, but I think Kristian Stanfill sings it(Like a bride waiting for her groom, we’ll be a church ready for You. Every heart longing for our King, we’ll sing even so come; Lord Jesus come!)

    But the one song that pulls me to the throne of God in heaven worshiping with all my brothers and sisters in Christ from all over the world every time I hear it is Chris Tomlin’s How Great is Our God world version. The Hispanic opera guy and the African chorus get me every time! https://search.yahoo.com/search;_ylt=AwrBTznwSKlVeQUAQx5XNyoA;_ylc=X1MDMjc2NjY3OQRfcgMyBGZyA3lmcC10LTkwMS1zBGdwcmlkAzRMMGFLSjFxVGplbDBNMUY5aW5CWkEEbl9yc2x0AzAEbl9zdWdnAzEwBG9yaWdpbgNzZWFyY2gueWFob28uY29tBHBvcwMwBHBxc3RyAwRwcXN0cmwDBHFzdHJsAzQ3BHF1ZXJ5A2NocmlzIHRvbWxpbiBob3cgZ3JlYXQgaXMgb3VyIGdvZCB3b3JsZCBlZGl0aW9uBHRfc3RtcAMxNDM3MTU3NzMy?p=chris+tomlin+how+great+is+our+god+world+edition&fr2=sb-top-search&fr=yfp-t-901-s&fp=1
