Join us in October as we do a 31-day theme study in God’s promises from the Bible. Shannon from the Sweet Blessings blog put this reading plan together. Check it out HERE.
You can join us in this study by reading today’s scripture below and journaling about it using SOAP (click on the “What’s SOAP?” link above to learn more). Below today’s scripture is an example SOAP from our team. Feel free to share your SOAP in the comments too! Whether it’s your first time reading the Bible or you’ve been doing daily devotions for decades, God will use this One Thing to speak to you. We are excited to be starting our 5th year of the Discover One Thing online study!
Scripture: Lamentations 3:21-26 (context vs. 19-27)
I remember my affliction and my wandering,
God’s Faithfulness | Kathy Page
Jeremiah saw one ray of hope in all the sin and sorrow surrounding him. God’s great faithfulness, His love and His tender mercies which never fail. These people would not be consumed. He knew God would willingly, lovingly, faithfully respond to His call. Jeremiah knew God’s love and mercy were greater than any sin and God would forgive.
Knowing God’s faithfulness and that He never changes gives us, His children, confidence that He will do what He has promised. How broad the faithfulness of God – it reaches every human need! We so often associate God’s faithfulness with the supplying of our physical or financial needs. But His faithfulness is far more. In a dark world filled with wickedness and evil, His faithfulness confirms us in His Word and keeps us from evil. Even in our moments of testing and trial, He is faithful to guide us through every step and see us safely to the victory He has for us. We are never alone in our trials. He is the One standing next to us through it all. Though we were born in sin and come short of God’s glory, He makes reconciliation for us through our great High Priest, Jesus. Great is God’s faithfulness, His unfailing love never ends, and His tender mercies are afresh each new day. We can rest in this promise – forever!
Father, we look back and remember and thank You for all You have done in the past – including knitting us together in our mamas’ wombs. You have guided our steps, always calling us to come and follow Jesus. You have met us right where we are, and You have saved us! You walk with us through the sunny days and the dark days. You empower us to live out Your love and be a witness of You to others. Oh Father, great is Your faithfulness. In Your Name, Amen.
