November 20 – 2 Corinthians 9:10-10:2

It is love, not knowledge, that forms the basis of Christianity. Paul wrote letters to the church at Corinth to emphasize this point and lead the Corinthians back into right relationship with God and others. Join our study by reading today’s scripture below and journaling about it using SOAP (click on the “What’s SOAP?” link above to learn more). 2 Corinthians 9:10-10:2

10 He who supplies seed to the sower and bread for food will supply and multiply your seed for sowing and increase the harvest of your righteousness. 11 You will be enriched in every way to be generous in every way, which through us will produce thanksgiving to God. 12 For the ministry of this service is not only supplying the needs of the saints but is also overflowing in many thanksgivings to God. 13 By their approval of this service, they will glorify God because of your submission that comes from your confession of the gospel of Christ, and the generosity of your contribution for them and for all others, 14 while they long for you and pray for you, because of the surpassing grace of God upon you. 15 Thanks be to God for his inexpressible gift!

Paul Defends His Ministry

10:1 I, Paul, myself entreat you, by the meekness and gentleness of Christ—I who am humble when face to face with you, but bold toward you when I am away!— I beg of you that when I am present I may not have to show boldness with such confidence as I count on showing against some who suspect us of walking according to the flesh.

Scripture

2 Corinthians 9:10-11

Observation

Paul recognizes God as the great supplier for all of our needs and all we have. Paul prays that God would supply resources to the Corinthian church so that they may give and at the same time multiply what they give.

Application

We should give our time and resources generously to others so others can be blessed with our resources and also with the gift of salvation. When we bless others, God blesses us back, but it’s an act of faith since we have to be willing to give first. It’s a gift that keeps giving! God provides. We give. God blesses others through our gift. They acknowledge and give thanks to God. They give. God blesses us for giving. We give thanks to God. We give again….

Prayer

Dear God, Thank You for this great cycle of giving and blessing and thanks You have given to us. I pray You would increase our faith and give us courage to continue to give to others more and more generously. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
