Daily Archives: November 5, 2019
In November, we are spending 30 days in praise and gratitude of our Almighty God as we prepare ourselves for the Thanksgiving and Christmas seasons. This reading plan comes from Sarah Ann at the Proverbs 31 Mentor blog (https://proverbs31mentor.com/).
You can join us in this study by reading today’s scripture below and journaling about it using SOAP (click on the “What’s SOAP?” link above to learn more). Below today’s scripture is an example SOAP from our team. Feel free to share your SOAP in the comments too! Whether it’s your first time reading the Bible or you’ve been doing daily devotions for decades, God will use this One Thing to speak to you.
I am thankful for God’s character — Holy
Psalm 111:9 – He provided redemption for his people; he ordained his covenant forever—holy and awesome is his name.
Psalm 119:142 –Your righteousness is everlasting and your law is true.
Isaiah 5:16 – But the Lord Almighty will be exalted by his justice, and the holy God will be proved holy by his righteous acts.
Isaiah 6:3 – And they were calling to one another: “Holy, holy, holy is the Lord Almighty; the whole earth is full of his glory.”
Be Holy | Shiree King
Isaiah 5:16, 6:3, Psalm 111:9, 119:142
Holiness means “set apart”. From the Enduring Word Commentary: “What is the Lord set apart from? He is set apart from creation, in that the Lord God is not a creature, and He exists outside of all creation. He is set apart from humanity, in that His nature or essence is Divine, not human. God is not a super-man or the ultimate man. God is not merely smarter than any man, stronger than any man, or better than any man. You can’t measure God on man’s chart at all. He is Divine, and we are human.”
1 Peter 1:16 says, “Be holy because I am holy.” God expects us to be set apart too, and we can be thankful He is a great example for us. But just how can we be holy? The first thing that comes to my mind seems to be a recurring reminder for me: spending time with God. The only way to truly be more like Jesus is to be with Jesus…through prayer and studying the Bible and attending church and serving Him and loving His children.
Dear God, Thank You for being holy and for Your example of holiness. Thank You for desiring to have a close relationship with us so You can teach us and show us just how we can be holy too. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
