October 7 – God’s Promises Day 7

Join us in October as we do a 31-day theme study in God’s promises from the Bible. Shannon from the Sweet Blessings blog put this reading plan together. Check it out HERE.

You can join us in this study by reading today’s scripture below and journaling about it using SOAP (click on the “What’s SOAP?” link above to learn more). Below today’s scripture is an example SOAP from our team. Feel free to share your SOAP in the comments too! Whether it’s your first time reading the Bible or you’ve been doing daily devotions for decades, God will use this One Thing to speak to you. We are excited to be starting our 5th year of the Discover One Thing online study!

Scripture: 1 Peter 1:3-5 (Context vs. 3-12)

Praise to God for a Living Hope

Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! In his great mercy he has given us new birth into a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, and into an inheritance that can never perish, spoil or fade. This inheritance is kept in heaven for you, who through faith are shielded by God’s power until the coming of the salvation that is ready to be revealed in the last time.

In all this you greatly rejoice, though now for a little while you may have had to suffer grief in all kinds of trials. These have come so that the proven genuineness of your faith—of greater worth than gold, which perishes even though refined by fire—may result in praise, glory and honor when Jesus Christ is revealed. Though you have not seen him, you love him; and even though you do not see him now, you believe in him and are filled with an inexpressible and glorious joy, for you are receiving the end result of your faith, the salvation of your souls.
10 Concerning this salvation, the prophets, who spoke of the grace that was to come to you, searched intently and with the greatest care, 11 trying to find out the time and circumstances to which the Spirit of Christ in them was pointing when he predicted the sufferings of the Messiah and the glories that would follow. 12 It was revealed to them that they were not serving themselves but you, when they spoke of the things that have now been told you by those who have preached the gospel to you by the Holy Spirit sent from heaven. Even angels long to look into these things.

SOAP Note

The Promise of Protection | Becky Newman

Scripture

1 Peter 1:3-5

Observation

Peter says we should be praising God and rejoicing for what He has done for us through Jesus and what He is doing for us that is waiting for us in heaven. Inbetween, we are promised that God’s power is shielding us in the process of discipleship and sanctification.

Application

I need Your shield of faith daily for protection against the flaming arrows of the evil one, and I am thankful for Your protection in my faith journey. It took me longer than it should have to recognize that You are protecting me, but You were faithful even in my ignorance. May I always acknowledge You as my Protector.

Prayer

Thank You, Lord, for protecting me every day! Lead me from temptation and deliver me from evil, and protect my husband, my kids, and my family and friends.
