Daily Archives: September 23, 2019
This month we are doing a 30-day “Love Offering” study by Rachael Adams. Each day will have a verse of Scripture with an application, to not merely listen to God’s Word but DO what it says (James 1:22). From Rachael: “Time spent with God and time spent serving those around us, changes the condition of our own hearts in the process. Our faith in action creates a chain reaction of full hearts and eternal impacts.” Click HERE to visit the “Love Offering” website for more resources and a daily calendar of applications. Please use the comment section of our website to share your stories on what God is doing through the daily applications.
You can join our study by reading today’s scripture below and journaling about it using SOAP (click on the “What’s SOAP?” link above to learn more). Below today’s scripture is an example SOAP from our team. Whether it’s your first time reading the Bible or you’ve been doing daily devotions for decades, God will use this One Thing to speak to you. We are excited to be starting our 5th year of the Discover One Thing online study!
Scripture: Acts 2:46 (Context vs. 42-47)
The Fellowship of the Believers
42 They devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching and to fellowship, to the breaking of bread and to prayer. 43 Everyone was filled with awe at the many wonders and signs performed by the apostles. 44 All the believers were together and had everything in common. 45 They sold property and possessions to give to anyone who had need. 4
6 Every day they continued to meet together in the temple courts. They broke bread in their homes and ate together with glad and sincere hearts,
47 praising God and enjoying the favor of all the people. And the Lord added to their number daily those who were being saved.
Application: Make a meal to share.
Share a Meal — When? | Becky Newman
This is a record of the first Christian church and what their worship looked like. Discipleship. Fellowship. Communion. Giving. These were the basics of their church service, and not just on Sundays but every day. They ate meals together and got along and attracted others to join them because God’s light shone so bright in what they were doing. The Holy Spirit was so strong in it that the devil had nowhere to get a foothold…until a few chapters later.
Make a meal to share. Does making my kids’ lunch count? Brutally honest here, because God already knows — I’ve been avoiding journaling this week because I didn’t want my list of love acts I haven’t done yet to get even longer. As I look at my day and my week, I don’t see a clear opportunity to accomplish today’s act. But no doubt, sometime in the next month, the opportunity will present itself. I know that if You want me to do it this week, You will nudge me, and I will feel compelled through the power of Your Holy Spirit.
Lord, keep my eyes and ears open to where I can serve You, according to Your will. If there’s someone today, this week, this month, this year whom You want me to share a meal with, may I feel Your nudge and obey Your leading.
