This month we are doing a 30-day “Love Offering” study by Rachael Adams. Each day will have a verse of Scripture with an application, to not merely listen to God’s Word but DO what it says (James 1:22). From Rachael: “Time spent with God and time spent serving those around us, changes the condition of our own hearts in the process. Our faith in action creates a chain reaction of full hearts and eternal impacts.” Click HERE to visit the “Love Offering” website for more resources and a daily calendar of applications. Please use the comment section of our website to share your stories on what God is doing through the daily applications.
You can join our study by reading today’s scripture below and journaling about it using SOAP (click on the “What’s SOAP?” link above to learn more). Below today’s scripture is an example SOAP from our team. Whether it’s your first time reading the Bible or you’ve been doing daily devotions for decades, God will use this One Thing to speak to you. We are excited to be starting our 5th year of the Discover One Thing online study!
Scripture: Matthew 6:28-30 (Context vs. 25-34)
Do Not Worry
25 “Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothes? 26 Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they27 Can any one of you by worrying add a single hour to your life?
28 “And why do you worry about clothes? See how the flowers of the field grow. They do not labor or spin.29 Yet I tell you that not even Solomon in all his splendor was dressed like one of these.30 If that is how God clothes the grass of the field, which is here today and tomorrow is thrown into the fire, will he not much more clothe you—you of little faith?
31 So do not worry, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’32 For the pagans run after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them.33 But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.34 Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.
Application: Donate clothing from your closet.
The Gift Goes On | Shiree King
These words contain God’s promise to all His children in this age of uncertainty. God has promised to provide for our food, clothing, and necessities. We need not worry if we seek to let God reign in our lives.
Today’s challenge is to donate clothing from your closet. This is super exciting for me since I love to get rid of things! I have a whole pile of stuff in my basement that needs to be sorted, but now I’m going to make one more pass through my closets (and my kids’ closets!) before making a trip to Open Door Mission this week. God will bless others as we are obedient to giving.
Dear God, Thank You for the opportunity to bless others with the items in our closets and houses with which You’ve already blessed us. May those who receive our donations encounter You in miraculous ways. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
