September 5 – Love Offering Day 5
This month we are doing a 30-day “Love Offering” study by Rachael Adams. Each day will have a verse of Scripture with an application, to not merely listen to God’s Word but DO what it says (James 1:22). From Rachael: “Time spent with God and time spent serving those around us, changes the condition of our own hearts in the process. Our faith in action creates a chain reaction of full hearts and eternal impacts.” Click HERE to visit the “Love Offering” website for more resources and a daily calendar of applications. Please use the comment section of our website to share your stories on what God is doing through the daily applications.
You can join our study by reading today’s scripture below and journaling about it using SOAP (click on the “What’s SOAP?” link above to learn more). Below today’s scripture is an example SOAP from our team. Whether it’s your first time reading the Bible or you’ve been doing daily devotions for decades, God will use this One Thing to speak to you. We are excited to be starting our 5th year of the Discover One Thing online study!
Scripture: Matthew 28:20 (Context vs. 16-20)
The Great Commission
16 Then the eleven disciples went to Galilee, to the mountain where Jesus had told them to go. 17 When they saw him, they worshiped him; but some doubted. 18 Then Jesus came to them and said, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. 19 Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit,
20 and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”
Application: Do something kind for a teacher.
Teachers Need Love Too | Marianne Toovey
Just before Jesus ascended into heaven right before his disciples’ very eyes, he left some very important instructions. Among those instructions were to ‘teach as I have taught you.” Isn’t that every teacher’s wish, that their students master the instruction and are able to go out and help others in the same way? But it’s actually the very last sentence that struck me. I have many friends who are teachers and they all love their students so much. It’s like they’re going through what their students go through. The find joy in the triumphs, pain in the trials. They lie awake at night worrying over how to encourage, help, train, cultivate. And at the end of the year when the students leave, the teachers still hold them in her heart forever.
Today we’re supposed to do something kind for a teacher. They do so much, don’t they? They work so hard, have such a passion, and rarely are they compensated fairly for pouring into our future generations. How easy it is to burn out. How easy it is to wonder if it’s all worth it. So I’m going to do something kind. Remind these teachers they’re not invisible, not underappreciated. They’re making a difference in our communities and it’s so worth it!
God, You are a Perfect Teacher! Thank You for setting the example for us. Please show me how best to impact a teacher’s life today so she can be encouraged and reminded that You are with her always, even to the end of the age. I love You! In Jesus’ name, Amen.
