Amos was a prophet and sheepbreeder. He lived in Tekoa in Judah, near Jerusalem. The theme of his book is God’s justice and is particularly relevant for affluent societies in all generations.
The words of Amos, one of the shepherds of Tekoa—the vision he saw concerning Israel two years before the earthquake, when Uzziah was king of Judah and Jeroboam son of Jehoash was king of Israel. 2 He said:

My bible notes say that the author identifies himself as a sheepbreeder from Telia, a small Judean city located about 10 miles from Jerusalem. He lets his readers know in his introduction that his words are the words of the Lord. He was not a trained prophet and clearly had no intention of ever becoming a prophet.
God doesn’t call just the people gifted in speech, or just the outgoing people, he calls all of us in many different ways and situations to tell others about Him. And I only know about these situations if I’m looking for them.
Father, please help me be on the lookout for situations and people You put before me that You want me to speak to with Your words or actions. Amen.
