June 11 – Hosea
For the summer months, we are reading the minor prophets, starting with Hosea. Our 3-week Hosea reading plan reveals the character of God and comes from the She Reads Truth blog. Click HERE to go to the website for the reading plan and a devotion to go with each reading. You can join our study by reading today’s scripture below and journaling about it using SOAP (click on the “What’s SOAP?” link above to learn more). Below today’s scripture is an example SOAP from our team. Whether it’s your first time reading the Bible or you’ve been doing daily devotions for decades, God will use this One Thing to speak to you. We love hearing from you! Please use the comment section of our website to share your SOAP, thoughts or questions on the reading, or prayer requests. You Are My People – Hosea 2:14-23

Love Trumps Obedience | Shiree King
From the Enduring Word Commentary: “Think about it: Which one of the pagan gods of the nations ever wanted the love of their followers? Which one of them ever asked, ‘Do you love me?’ False gods don’t ever want our love, they want our fear, our obedience, our slave-like sacrifice and devotion. But the true God, the Living God, isn’t satisfied with just our fear, our obedience, or even our slave-like sacrifice and devotion. He wants our love, freely given and enjoyed in relationship with Him. If we miss this, we miss the heart of God’s work in us and for us.”
I am so hard-wired to be a rule follower. I can “check the box” like the best of them; yet as a sinful being, it seems nearly impossible to “dot every i and cross every t.” If my primary goal is obedience to the rules, I am going to fail and always be ridden with guilt at never being able to measure up. I have to let it sink in and accept that God wants my heart and love more than He wants my obedience and action. He knows I am going to fall and fail, yet He still loves me and desires my love for Him in return.
Dear God, Thank You so much for Your love and grace. Thank You for Your forgiveness. I know You want me to be obedient to Your Word, but I know You want more for me to have a relationship with You and to love You. I desire to make decisions that express my love to You this week. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
