May 27 – Embracing Grace
This month we are seeking a deeper understanding of grace — the undeserved favor given to us by God. We are following a study by Kristy at the Organic Christian Living blog. Click HERE to go to her website for this study and dig a little deeper, with a playlist and devotions for each week of the study. You can join our study by reading today’s scripture below and journaling about it using SOAP (click on the “What’s SOAP?” link above to learn more). Below today’s scripture is an example SOAP from our team. Whether it’s your first time reading the Bible or you’ve been doing daily devotions for decades, God will use this One Thing to speak to you. We love hearing from you! Please use the comment section of our website to share your SOAP, thoughts or questions on the reading, or prayer requests. Join us as we build unity and community through God’s Word!
Embracing Grace in Your Prayer Life —
Love for Enemies
43 “You have heard that it was said, ‘Love your neighbor and hate your enemy.’ 44 But I tell you, love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you, 45 that you may be children of your Father in heaven. He causes his sun to rise on the evil and the good, and sends rain on the righteous and the unrighteous. 46 If you love those who love you, what reward will you get? Are not even the tax collectors doing that? 47 And if you greet only your own people, what are you doing more than others? Do not even pagans do that? 48 Be perfect, therefore, as your heavenly Father is perfect.
Pray Blessings | Becky Newman
These verses are a flashback to 1 Peter 3:9 in our reading two weeks ago – “Do not repay evil with evil or insult with insult. On the contrary, repay evil with blessing.” We are to pray blessings on our enemies.
Making it a habit to pray blessings on those who have wronged me will help my perspective to see that person as a human loved by You who is struggling with sin just like me rather than to dwell on the hurt and wrong and let bitterness take root.
Lord my God, You are my patient Teacher and Guide, and You are leading my stubborn heart through some painful growth. Thank You for Your gentleness through it. Help me make it a habit to pray blessings on those who wrong me.
