Lent is the 40-day period before Easter, and it is “a time for reflection, repentance, and renewal when Christians are invited to prepare themselves for the celebration of the Lord’s resurrection.” This Lent, we are doing a 40-day study from the American Bible Society to focus our time in God’s Word and prayer on His renewing power (click HERE for the reading plan). Join our study by reading today’s scripture below and journaling about it using SOAP (click on the “What’s SOAP?” link above to learn more). Below today’s scripture is an example SOAP from our team. Whether it’s your first time reading the Bible or you’ve been doing daily devotions for decades, God will use this One Thing to speak to you. We love hearing from you! Please use the comment section of our website to share your SOAP, thoughts or questions on the reading, or prayer requests. Join us as we build unity and community through God’s Word!

The Suffering and Glory of the Servant
13 See, my servant will act wisely;
We Are Forgiven | Rebecca Hoyt
My Bible notes that just as the opening verse in this chapter was directly quoted as applying to Jesus, so also was the final verse. Jesus quoted from Isaiah 53:12-“He was numbered with the transgressors,” indicating that the passage was to be fulfilled in Himself. Mark noted that prophecy was fulfilled as the Lord Jesus hung upon the cross between the two criminals. From the opening verse to the closing verse, Isaiah 53 details the suffering and victory wrought by God’s Servant, Jesus Christ. When Jesus, God incarnate, sinless and pure, purposefully bled and died in the place of sinners, He bore the sin of many and interceded for the transgressed. His sacrifice was effective once and for all, and redemption from sin is available to all who will believe.
As Easter gets closer and we prepare our hearts for the celebration, this is what it’s all about: Jesus dying for all our sins so that one day we too will be able to spend eternity with God and Jesus.
Dear Father, thank You for this beautiful day. Thank You that You forgive us everyday. Thank You for dying on that cross for all of us sinners. Amen.
