Lent is the 40-day period before Easter, and it is “a time for reflection, repentance, and renewal when Christians are invited to prepare themselves for the celebration of the Lord’s resurrection.” This Lent, we are doing a 40-day study from the American Bible Society to focus our time in God’s Word and prayer on His renewing power (click HERE for the reading plan). Join our study by reading today’s scripture below and journaling about it using SOAP (click on the “What’s SOAP?” link above to learn more). Below today’s scripture is an example SOAP from our team. Whether it’s your first time reading the Bible or you’ve been doing daily devotions for decades, God will use this One Thing to speak to you. We love hearing from you! Please use the comment section of our website to share your SOAP, thoughts or questions on the reading, or prayer requests. Join us as we build unity and community through God’s Word!

1 Chronicles 16:23-25
God has continually brought His people out of trials, rescuing them even when they had done nothing to deserve it. Therefore He has proven that He is good and we can trust Him with our worries and thank Him for the refuge He provides. We should be thanking Him directly in addition to proclaiming His works among our communities.
Earlier in this section, David gives us 8 ways we can praise and glorify God: give thanks to Him, call upon Him, make His works known, sing praises, talk to and about Him, glory (delight in) Him, seek Him, and remember what He’s done. This is an excellent reminder that worship is not just singing at church. We should be applying this heart of worship into our everyday lives, even in the mundane or difficult times. At any time, we can do any of these 8 things – and God even said that if we delight ourselves in the Lord (like praising Him in these ways all day long) He will give us the desires of our heart (Psalm 37:4).
Lord God, by Your Word fill us with a spirit of gratitude and thanksgiving. Thank You so much for all that You’ve done for us and for another day to worship You. Help us to adopt a heart of worship so that we are praising you every day and in every way, even when it feels like we have nothing to be thankful for. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
