Colossians 1:2

In reading a little bit about the book of Colossians, Paul wrote this letter to the Colossians because the church there was being infiltrated with false teaching that the gospel of Jesus Christ was inadequate for full redemption.  In addressing the “holy and faithful”, Paul may have been referring to those who had not embraced the false teaching that concerned him so much.

Holy. Faithful. Holy is defined as “dedicated or devoted to the service of God, the church, or religion.” Faithful is defined as “loyal, consistent, and steadfast.”  As I enter a new year, these adjectives are a good reminder of what true service to God looks like.  I have been praying about God’s “word” for me for 2019, and I think it is “obey”.  How do I become holy and faithful in my walk with God? By obeying His Word and the Holy Spirit’s still small voice and not relying on my own feelings and desires to guide my choices.

Dear God,  Thank You for loving me and caring for me so much that You haven’t given up on me.  Please constantly remind me in 2019 of Your desire for me to obey, so that I, too, can be addressed as a holy and faithful believer.  In Jesus’ name, Amen.
