It is love, not knowledge, that forms the basis of Christianity. Paul wrote letters to the church at Corinth to emphasize this point and lead the Corinthians back into right relationship with God and others. Join our study by reading today’s scripture below and journaling about it using SOAP (click on the “What’s SOAP?” link above to learn more). Below today’s scripture is an example SOAP from our team. 2 Corinthians 3:16-4:6
16 But when one turns to the Lord, the veil is removed. 17 Now the Lord is the Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom. 18 And we all, with unveiled face, beholding the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into the same image from one degree of glory to another. For this comes from the Lord who is the Spirit.
The Light of the Gospel
4:1 Therefore, having this ministry by the mercy of God, we do not lose heart. 2 But we have renounced disgraceful, underhanded ways. We refuse to practice cunning or to tamper with God’s word, but by the open statement of the truth we would commend ourselves to everyone’s conscience in the sight of God. 3 And even if our gospel is veiled, it is veiled to those who are perishing. 4 In their case the god of this world has blinded the minds of the unbelievers, to keep them from seeing the light of the gospel of the glory of Christ, who is the image of God. 5 For what we proclaim is not ourselves, but Jesus Christ as Lord, with ourselves as your servants for Jesus’ sake. 6 For God, who said, “Let light shine out of darkness,” has shone in our hearts to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ.
Never Give Up | Marianne Toovey
2 Corinthians 4:1
Because we are free from all the rules of the Old Testament, thanks to the gift of salvation through Jesus’ resurrection, we can keep going. We will never give up.
I overwhelm rather easily. I’ve been known to make mountains out of molehills. But even when it’s a legit mountain I face, I tend to worry about getting to the top before I’ve even started the climb! I often wonder how I let myself take on so much and toy with the idea of dropping a thing or two. But I’ve never felt that way in my relationship with God. Being a Christian isn’t always easy, but talking to God is. I’ve never felt like I couldn’t go to Him for something or that this relationship just isn’t working out. I don’t know that I’d be singing this same tune if I were required to burn offerings all the time! I’m so thankful for this new way of being with God. I know I can handle this relationship and I won’t be giving it up!
God, thank You for making it easy to be in relationship with You. I’m glad You’re the one area of my life that never gets overwhelming. I do pray for perseverance in other areas of my life, so I’m not getting overwhelmed there either. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
