November 4 – 2 Corinthians 1:20-2:4

It is love, not knowledge, that forms the basis of Christianity. Paul wrote letters to the church at Corinth to emphasize this point and lead the Corinthians back into right relationship with God and others. Join our study by reading today’s scripture below and journaling about it using SOAP (click on the “What’s SOAP?” link above to learn more). 2 Corinthians 1:20-2:4

20 For no matter how many promises God has made, they are “Yes” in Christ. And so through him the “Amen” is spoken by us to the glory of God. 21 Now it is God who makes both us and you stand firm in Christ. He anointed us, 22 set his seal of ownership on us, and put his Spirit in our hearts as a deposit, guaranteeing what is to come.
23 I call God as my witness—and I stake my life on it—that it was in order to spare you that I did not return to Corinth. 24 Not that we lord it over your faith, but we work with you for your joy, because it is by faith you stand firm.
So I made up my mind that I would not make another painful visit to you. For if I grieve you, who is left to make me glad but you whom I have grieved? I wrote as I did, so that when I came I would not be distressed by those who should have made me rejoice. I had confidence in all of you, that you would all share my joy. For I wrote you out of great distress and anguish of heart and with many tears, not to grieve you but to let you know the depth of my love for you.

Good Enough  | Marianne Toovey

2 Corinthians 1:21-22

God is the one who makes it possible for me to stand firm in my faith, not me. God chose me for a reason. He calls me His own. I am guaranteed to receive His promise.

It’s hard being a woman in this society. I’m constantly bombarded with messages in the media and all around me playing to my insecurities. I’m not pretty enough, thin enough, strong enough, smart enough, good enough. I need to use these products or services to fix or hide my flaws or I’ll be an outcast forever. But I have right here in front of me a message, THE message, that says I am good enough. God has given me what I need to stand firm – a good church, a strong fellowship of believers, and His Word. It’s all taken care of for me, even I can’t mess it up. He chose me just as I am with no strings or conditions attached. He loves me enough, flaws and all, to adopt me into His family and deliver me from my sins so I can spend eternity with Him. So no matter what lies I’m told that feed my insecurities, I can rest in the truth of God’s love for me. I am good enough.

God, thank You for this reminder today. Help me not to fall prey to the lies of this world. Remind me Whose I am and how wonderful that is. No matter what’s going on around me, I’m good enough for You and that’s good enough for me! In Jesus’ name, Amen.
