May 23 – God is my Refuge

Sitting at the feet of Jesus is building a divine relationship. As with any relationship, it becomes easier to trust someone when we get to know them better.  In this 3-week study, we are seeking to get to know God better through the Psalms, to grow this divine relationship as we put our faith and hope in Him and love Him with all our heart. Join our study by reading today’s scripture below and journaling about it focused on today’s truth using SOAP (click on the “What’s SOAP?” link above to learn more). Comments are always welcome on our website for questions, discussion, and accountability.

Psalm 46

For the director of music. Of the Sons of Korah. According to alamoth. A song.
God is our refuge and strength,
    an ever-present help in trouble.
Therefore we will not fear, though the earth give way
    and the mountains fall into the heart of the sea,
though its waters roar and foam
    and the mountains quake with their surging.
There is a river whose streams make glad the city of God,
    the holy place where the Most High dwells.
God is within her, she will not fall;
    God will help her at break of day.
Nations are in uproar, kingdoms fall;
    he lifts his voice, the earth melts.
The Lord Almighty is with us;
    the God of Jacob is our fortress.
Come and see what the Lord has done,
    the desolations he has brought on the earth.
He makes wars cease
    to the ends of the earth.
He breaks the bow and shatters the spear;
    he burns the shields with fire.
10 He says, “Be still, and know that I am God;
    I will be exalted among the nations,
    I will be exalted in the earth.”
11 The Lord Almighty is with us;
    the God of Jacob is our fortress.

Psalm 46:2

God delivered Jerusalem from all of their troubles — the city of God, the place that He wants His people to feel safe and secure, assured in His comfort and protection.

You always give me help when trouble comes. There is no reason that I should ever be afraid. When the earth is shaking all around me, and I’m fearful of the unknown, I know You’re right there in the middle of it,and that You’ll keep me safe. You are the Lord of All Things, and I know You are with me. I need to remember to run to my safe place, You, in those times of uncertainty.

Father, I too want to praise You, as I know one day all of the wars in this life will be finished. I hate the wars involving nations, but what I despise more is the war that is waged within. Lately there has been this constant chatter of lies, lies that I have started to believe. You are God; You are Truth; and You are the place I need to go to. Reassure me that I am hearing lies, and tell me more of Your truth. Thank You for being my confidence and my safe place to go. In Jesus’ name…Amen.
