Daniel 11:29-35 – January 27

Who’s really in charge of your 2017? To start us out in our right place this new year, we’re walking with Daniel this month, learning how God crafts every detail in His plan from creation of the world and history to the smallest details in our lives. He reigns over everything, and still He loves us through every moment of our lives. Join our study by following along with the reading plan then reflecting and journaling on each day’s reading to humble yourself before Him and listen. Below is the NIV version of today’s reading followed by a SOAP journal note from one of our study leaders. If you’re wondering what SOAP is…it’s a method of Bible study that focuses on applying scripture to our every days. Read more about it on our website.

Daniel 11:29-35 – The Kings of the South and the North

29 “At the appointed time he will invade the South again, but this time the outcome will be different from what it was before. 30 Ships of the western coastlands will oppose him, and he will lose heart. Then he will turn back and vent his fury against the holy covenant. He will return and show favor to those who forsake the holy covenant.
31 “His armed forces will rise up to desecrate the temple fortress and will abolish the daily sacrifice. Then they will set up the abomination that causes desolation. 32 With flattery he will corrupt those who have violated the covenant, but the people who know their God will firmly resist him.
33 “Those who are wise will instruct many, though for a time they will fall by the sword or be burned or captured or plundered. 34 When they fall, they will receive a little help, and many who are not sincere will join them. 35 Some of the wise will stumble, so that they may be refined, purified and made spotless until the time of the end, for it will still come at the appointed time.

Preparing for Opportunities | Dyea Rowland

Scripture

Daniel 11:33

Observation

As I believe these verses depict past events, I read urgency in these verses as they definitely have futuristic undertones.

Application

Regardless how futuristic these events are, this verse speaks to me that the time is now. Time to get myself ready — spiritually, physically, and biblically. You say that whoever has understanding among people will instruct many. I want to be wise and need to begin preparing and being bold in those opportunities now.

Prayer

Father, I want to be loyal to You. I want to be well-equipped at “all times”, ready to speak Your truth. Prepare me and allow me those opportunities, so I may increase Your glory. In Jesus’ name…Amen.

  1. At yesterday’s moms group we talked about what does being “ready” look like. God didn’t reveal end times events to make us freeze up in fear or that we would get lost in trying to determine when these things are going to happen or to say screw it to the world I know where I’m going. He told us these things so we would have a sense of urgency to be ready, ready with both a focus on God and others. So, join in, leave a comment — what does being ready mean?

  2. Being ready? Hmmm, I guess I would say I would have peace about where I am going and when. Thats not easy when you are a worry-wort!
