Colossians 1:1-14 – July 26

The Bible is basically a compilation of love letters from our Father in heaven, His loving words breathed onto each page. Over the next several months, as we study the letters of the Bible, Galatians through Jude, I pray that You will experience His eternal love in new ways and that it will transform you. These letters were written by Christian leaders, most of them by Paul, to establish and grow the Christian Church. For us, they are filled with love and gold nuggets on living a Christian life. Join along in our study by reading today’s scripture, journaling on it using SOAP, then sharing how God spoke to you today. Below is the NIV version of today’s reading, then below that is a SOAP from one of our study leaders. The Comments section on our website is an open forum for sharing, requesting prayer, and asking questions.

Colossians 1:1-14

Paul, an apostle of Christ Jesus by the will of God, and Timothy our brother, To God’s holy people in Colossae, the faithful brothers and sisters in Christ: Grace and peace to you from God our Father.

Thanksgiving and Prayer

We always thank God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, when we pray for you, because we have heard of your faith in Christ Jesus and of the love you have for all God’s people— the faith and love that spring from the hope stored up for you in heaven and about which you have already heard in the true message of the gospel that has come to you. In the same way, the gospel is bearing fruit and growing throughout the whole world—just as it has been doing among you since the day you heard it and truly understood God’s grace. You learned it from Epaphras, our dear fellow servant, who is a faithful minister of Christ on our behalf, and who also told us of your love in the Spirit.
For this reason, since the day we heard about you, we have not stopped praying for you. We continually ask God to fill you with the knowledge of his will through all the wisdom and understanding that the Spirit gives, 10 so that you may live a life worthy of the Lord and please him in every way: bearing fruit in every good work, growing in the knowledge of God, 11 being strengthened with all power according to his glorious might so that you may have great endurance and patience, 12 and giving joyful thanks to the Father, who has qualified you to share in the inheritance of his holy people in the kingdom of light. 13 For he has rescued us from the dominion of darkness and brought us into the kingdom of the Son he loves, 14 in whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins.

Colossians 1:13

The Colossians now processing their new faith had many hurdles to jump. Being exposed to heresy hindered them in ways to their spiritual blessings.

Whether a non-believer, new believer, or a seasoned believer, I was reminded yesterday that we have the authority and power to change the atmosphere. The same that went on in that day is still of that today. Satan is having his way with people, especially inside the church. There has been an explosion of lying tongues; and churches everywhere have succumbed to all of the very esoteric symbolism that is in the world. You’ve been showing me the darkness – heresy, blasphemy, lying tongues (trying to ignite this false peace). Now You’ve given me the nudge to speak Your truth and pray for deliverance throughout the world of the demonic spirits that are having their way with our people in and of the world.

Father, there is so much push for the Antichrist’s kingdom, within even our churches. Churches are blind to see the game Satan is playing with them. There is a false spiritual religious experience going on, and true spiritual gifts that You’ve blessed us with are being turned upside down and being used for the devil’s device. There is so much spiritual blindness; there is dire need for prayer and deliverance. Let others see and not ignore this false kingdom that is being pushed to be set up here on earth. Let us not forget that we have been seated with You in the heavenly realm, and we have a place to fight this battle. Convict us and purify us, so You are glorified. Let Your true kingdom come and will be done. In Your name, Jesus…Amen.
