Summer in Psalms Interactive Bible Study – August 6

Thank you for joining us for a summer in Psalms! We’ll stay in Psalms through the end of August. Since this Bible study is interactive, we need a response from you, what God is laying on your heart, after you read today’s psalm. Just leave your response in the Comments section on our website’s home page. Your response could be a verse that stood out to you, observation, application, prayer, question, prayer request, or response to another’s comment. Please check back! Together we can encourage one another and grow closer to God!

The Discover One Thing ministry uses the SOAP method of Bible Study (Scripture, Observation, Application, Prayer) during our daily time at the feet of Jesus. To learn more, check out the “What’s SOAP?” tab above. This interactive study is intended to be a stepping stone from reading God’s Word to journaling with Him using SOAP.

Psalm 67

For the director of music. With stringed instruments. A psalm. A song.

May God be gracious to us and bless us
    and make his face shine on us—
so that your ways may be known on earth,
    your salvation among all nations.

May the peoples praise you, God;
    may all the peoples praise you.
May the nations be glad and sing for joy,
    for you rule the peoples with equity
    and guide the nations of the earth.
May the peoples praise you, God;
    may all the peoples praise you.

The land yields its harvest;
    God, our God, blesses us.
May God bless us still,
    so that all the ends of the earth will fear him.

    “May the people praise you, O God; may all the peoples praise you. Then the land will yield it’s harvest, and God, our God, bless us.” I just returned from a trip to California. There is no green there. The land has some crops. But the drought is definitely apparent. Sitting here and looking outside at all the green around me reminds me of the quote above. However, I can’t help but think, that even if California isn’t as lush as maybe once before, God has blessed everybody … I don’t believe the harvest necessarily has to be in the form of plants. For if we did praise God there will be plenty to harvest. Isn’t that what He wants us to do? Spread the seeds of his Word. Lord, I pray that you help me learn how to spread your word more effectively. Amen

  2. 1. “May God be gracious to us and bless us and make his face shine on us”
    Alot of times when I’m trying to teach my kiddos a lesson, I’ll ask them if they are proud of what they did wrong or if Jesus would shine down and smile upon their action.
    But reading this I think I may need to rethink that wording a little because I really should be reminding them that They are loved by Jesus and myself unconditionally even when they mess up because we all mess up but that you have to admit your mistakes and improve and not make them again…I know I got completely way off but that’s what I got to thinking about:)

  3. The harvest is plentiful but the workers are few (Matthew 9:37-38). God please send out Your workers; send us!
