Summer in Psalms Interactive Bible Study – August 4

Thank you for joining us for a summer in Psalms! We’ll stay in Psalms through the end of August. Since this Bible study is interactive, we need a response from you, what God is laying on your heart, after you read today’s psalm. Just leave your response in the Comments section on our website’s home page. Your response could be a verse that stood out to you, observation, application, prayer, question, prayer request, or response to another’s comment. Please check back! Together we can encourage one another and grow closer to God!

The Discover One Thing ministry uses the SOAP method of Bible Study (Scripture, Observation, Application, Prayer) during our daily time at the feet of Jesus. To learn more, check out the “What’s SOAP?” tab above. This interactive study is intended to be a stepping stone from reading God’s Word to journaling with Him using SOAP.

Psalm 65

For the director of music. A psalm of David. A song.

Praise awaits you, our God, in Zion;
    to you our vows will be fulfilled.
You who answer prayer,
    to you all people will come.
When we were overwhelmed by sins,
    you forgave our transgressions.
Blessed are those you choose
    and bring near to live in your courts!
We are filled with the good things of your house,
    of your holy temple.

You answer us with awesome and righteous deeds,
    God our Savior,
the hope of all the ends of the earth
    and of the farthest seas,
who formed the mountains by your power,
    having armed yourself with strength,
who stilled the roaring of the seas,
    the roaring of their waves,
    and the turmoil of the nations.
The whole earth is filled with awe at your wonders;
    where morning dawns, where evening fades,
    you call forth songs of joy.

You care for the land and water it;
    you enrich it abundantly.
The streams of God are filled with water
    to provide the people with grain,
    for so you have ordained it.
10 You drench its furrows and level its ridges;
    you soften it with showers and bless its crops.
11 You crown the year with your bounty,
    and your carts overflow with abundance.
12 The grasslands of the wilderness overflow;
    the hills are clothed with gladness.
13 The meadows are covered with flocks
    and the valleys are mantled with grain;
    they shout for joy and sing.

  1. Verses 9-13 are so beautiful in the context of how God cares for His creation! This summer has been very wet here in Nebraska, so we see an abundance of green and bunnies and squirrels enjoying every bit of it. God has blessed me in a special way this summer. I wasn’t able to put my big garden in this year, but I had to replace a lot of trees, and out of the home-made compost I used for planting has sprung squash, pumpkins, a huge onion, and even tomatoes. Each one I see as a gift straight from my Creator Who knows how to make me feel loved. My plans and toil didn’t create this year’s harvest; He did. God, I pray especially for the harvest at the food pantry garden. You know the critters are really enjoying what we planted. Grow me in my faith that garden will survive and come back with an abundant harvest for the poor next year, all for Your glory, so that they may know You are God the Creator and Sustainer.
