Summer in Psalms Interactive Bible Study – June 23
This Bible study in Psalms is intended to be interactive, as a stepping stone from reading God’s Word to journaling with Him. The Discover One Thing ministry focuses on use of the SOAP method of Bible Study (Scripture, Observation, Application, Prayer) during our daily time at the feet of Jesus. The Book of Psalms contains responses to God by individuals and the community in worship. We pray through this study that all of us will focus on the majesty of God and humble ourselves before Him in worship, no matter our circumstance.

Psalm 23
A psalm of David.
1 The Lord is my shepherd, I lack nothing.
2 He makes me lie down in green pastures,
he leads me beside quiet waters,
3 he refreshes my soul.
He guides me along the right paths
for his name’s sake.
4 Even though I walk
through the darkest valley,
I will fear no evil,
for you are with me;
your rod and your staff,
they comfort me.
5 You prepare a table before me
in the presence of my enemies.
You anoint my head with oil;
my cup overflows.
6 Surely your goodness and love will follow me
all the days of my life,
and I will dwell in the house of the Lord
forever.

Discover One Thing Online Bible Study 
I have started to go straight to psalms when
I wake up in the morning(instead of Facebook
Or the news) it’s awesome to wake up refreshed
Instead of worried for the world, or wanting
What others have. I love Verses 1-3
Each morning reading this puts me in
The right mind set for the day. Instead
Of focusing on things that don’t matter
verse3…. He guides me along the right
Paths for his name sake. Also in verse
1. … I lack nothing. It’s so easy to wish you got
To do what others are doing, instead each night
I’ve been thinking about everything I’m
Thankful for that day and that God has given
Me all I need

Psalm 23 is probably the most well-known of the psalms because it’s often recited at funerals. Why? I was confused about this for a long time. I couldn’t figure out why we were honoring someone who died by reciting scripture that was not about them at all. It’s not about them because their time in this world is done. It’s about us because we’re still here needing to find comfort and trust. And this psalm points us to God for it. Your goodness and love will follow me, pursue me, embrace and engulf me all the days of my life! Thank You!

I love this Psalm! I pray that I always stay close to God and honestly grow even closer to Him so I can experience the green pastures and quiet waters that will restore me. He brings such peace and contentment when I focus on Him. Let my focus always be on him! I agree Rebecca, reading this fist thing this morning just brightened and refocused me today. Have a great Tuesday! 🙂

3. He refreshes my soul.
He guides me along the right paths for his namesake.
Speaks to me the most today.
It’s so much esier to take his path knowing that he always is wanting to refresh my heart

Verse 1 : The Lord is my shepherd, I lack nothing (I shall not want).
I lack nothing…why? I remember from our gospels journey that Jesus said in Matthew 23:8-10 “But you are not to be called ‘Rabbi,’ for you have one Teacher, and you are all brothers. And do not call anyone on earth ‘father,’ for you have one Father, and he is in heaven. Nor are you to be called instructors, for you have one Instructor, the Messiah.
If I love the approval of men rather than the approval of God (John 12:43), or give authority to anything or any one other than what rightfully belongs to God Almighty, I have nothing, I am nothing – then I shall want, what man cannot give me.
Please allow Your surely goodness, love and mercy to continue to follow me for all the days of my life. It’s easy to take You for granted in ALL You do, reflecting on this Psalm today. Whether written in joy or darkness – anyone can relate, whether in joy, sadness or darkness.
