Summer in Psalms Interactive Bible Study – June 14

This Bible study in Psalms is intended to be interactive, as a stepping stone from reading God’s Word to journaling with Him. The Discover One Thing ministry focuses on use of the SOAP method of Bible Study (Scripture, Observation, Application, Prayer) during our daily time at the feet of Jesus. To learn more, check out the “What’s SOAP?” tab above. Please read the Psalm below, let God speak to You through it, then post a response in the Comments section on our website’s home page. Your response could be any of the following related to the Psalm: scripture verse that stood out to you, observation, application, prayer, question, prayer request, or response to another’s comment. And check back to see where the conversation leads us! Together we can encourage one another and grow closer to God!

The Book of Psalms contains responses to God by individuals and the community in worship. We pray through this study that all of us will focus on the majesty of God and humble ourselves before Him in worship, no matter our circumstance.

Psalm 14

For the director of music. Of David.

The fool says in his heart,
    “There is no God.”
They are corrupt, their deeds are vile;
    there is no one who does good.

The Lord looks down from heaven
    on all mankind
to see if there are any who understand,
    any who seek God.
All have turned away, all have become corrupt;
    there is no one who does good,
    not even one.

Do all these evildoers know nothing?

They devour my people as though eating bread;
    they never call on the Lord.
But there they are, overwhelmed with dread,
    for God is present in the company of the righteous.
You evildoers frustrate the plans of the poor,
    but the Lord is their refuge.

Oh, that salvation for Israel would come out of Zion!
    When the Lord restores his people,
    let Jacob rejoice and Israel be glad!

  1. They devour my people like eating bread.

    Rough weekend in my family. Had an intervention. For my 2nd to oldest sister who is an alcoholic and has been for 30 years. Gave her everyone’s bottom lines if she refused to go to treatment that had been set up. She was suicidal and her blood alcohol was .3 the other day and the hospital said that’s walking dead:( she refused treatment and since I asked everyone to do the intervention, I feel like everyone is mad at me.
    Just like that, like eating bread,Satan turned my sisters on me

  3. Verse 5 : “Suppressing the Truth”

    – – But there they are, overwhelmed with dread, for God is present in the company of the righteous.

    When truth rises up within and confronts us, it is pushed back down and resisted from that inward conviction. God forgives, when we know we messed up and call it out, He’s there; He wants our hearts and wants us near, always.

    Crystal — you know I’m praying (I’m praying for this specific recognition for your sister); you know I’m here.
