Summer in Psalms Interactive Bible Study – June 3

This Bible study in Psalms is intended to be interactive, as a stepping stone from reading God’s Word to journaling with Him. The Discover One Thing ministry focuses on use of the SOAP method of Bible Study (Scripture, Observation, Application, Prayer) during our daily time at the feet of Jesus. To learn more, check out the “What’s SOAP?” tab above. Please read the Psalm below, let God speak to You through it, then post a response in the Comments section on our website’s home page. Your response could be any of the following related to the Psalm: scripture verse that stood out to you, observation, application, prayer, question, prayer request, or response to another’s comment. And check back to see where the conversation leads us! Together we can encourage one another and grow closer to God!

The Book of Psalms contains responses to God by individuals and the community in worship. We pray through this study that all of us will focus on the majesty of God and humble ourselves before Him in worship, no matter our circumstance.

Psalm 3

A psalm of David. When he fled from his son Absalom.

Lord, how many are my foes!
    How many rise up against me!
Many are saying of me,
    “God will not deliver him.”

But you, Lord, are a shield around me,
    my glory, the One who lifts my head high.
I call out to the Lord,
    and he answers me from his holy mountain.

I lie down and sleep;
    I wake again, because the Lord sustains me.
I will not fear though tens of thousands
    assail me on every side.

Arise, Lord!
    Deliver me, my God!
Strike all my enemies on the jaw;
    break the teeth of the wicked.

From the Lord comes deliverance.
    May your blessing be on your people.

  1. I love how He is our shield when our enemies rise up against us. I need to rest in that and receive the peace that He is fighting for me. He sustains me. For some reason, I’m thinking and praying for the Duggars this morning. Yes, their son made a mistake, they acknowledged that and yet the public wants to continuing beat them up for something that happened 14 years ago. They just need to stay faithful to God, (which I’m sure they will). He will give them peace and healing in their family. …Dear Lord, this morning I pray for the Duggar family, give them peace in the midst of this public storm. Help them stay humble and I pray that Your Glory will be displayed through this situation. As they choose to forgive and offer grace to their son, I pray others will understand that You are a father that does the same for us.

  2. Amen Joni! I remember the last time I read through Psalms feeling disconnected because there was so much about enemies, and I thought I didn’t have any. HA! This week’s enemy is pains in my body; I’m feeling all out of sorts. And I need to remember it’s not Excedrin that will deliver me; God is my Deliverer, my Sustainer!

  3. Joni and Becky,, as we call out to the Lord today, may He hear and answer our hearts request. We are so blessed to know He can and will heal all of what the locust have destroyed. It is such a comforting feeling to know that anytime it seems we or love ones are under attack our Lord is always there and surely sustains.
