May 8 – Acts 14:1-15:11

I hope everyone has a happy and relaxing Mother’s Day!

READ: Acts 14:1-15:11

Acts 14:1-2, 19 – At Iconium Paul and Barnabas went as usual into the Jewish synagogue. There they spoke so effectively that a great number of Jews and Gentiles believed. But the Jews who refused to believe stirred up the Gentiles and poisoned their minds against the brothers…Then some Jews came from Antioch and Iconium and won the crowd over. They stoned Paul and dragged him outside the city, thinking he was dead.

The people hear Paul and Barnabas speak the word of God and believe, but then non-believing Jews come in and say things against them. In verses 8-18, Paul does a miracle and when the crowd sees what he has done they want to worship him, but so easily the people turn against them–just like when we go to church or Bible study and feel connected to God but then we go home and all the distractions of the world are taking us away from God, and we unknowingly turn from him so quickly.  It is so important to read and pray daily. I can really tell a difference that day if I don’t spend time reading.

I need to focus on God during the week and not let other things distract me from Him.

Dear God,

Thank You for all the wonderful mothers! Please don’t let my mind be poisoned this week by anything that takes me away.

  1. I think it’s interesting to look at how the good news is shared with the Jews vs. the Gentiles. Paul and Barnabas were raised in the Jewish culture and traditions, but they took the time to get to know their audience. Paul was imprisoned, chained to many Roman guards–I bet he got to know them quite well! He had to understand their religion of mythology in order to tell them about the One True God and His Son Jesus. Verses 15-17 are filled with words that God spoke through Paul to reach these Gentiles raised in a very different culture than the Jews, in which he had to introduce God first before he could tell them about salvation through Jesus. God gives you food! God fills you with joy! Even when you don’t know Him or acknowledge Him. God loves me and desires my love back in acknowledging all that He has done for me!
